The pressure is on Arsenal

Kevin Davies has made a very good point this week, the pressure really is on Arsenal in the race for the final Champions League spot. But then they faced the pressure last season to snatch fourth place from Tottenham Hotspur in farcical circumstances.

This season it is different, they have a lead and a game in hand over their closest challengers, Bolton Wanderers. With the two teams due to play each other again in the league this season, Arsenal have to be favourites to hold onto the place. Having said that their poor form will give Bolton hope of snatching the place.

As for Everton, well they will push them both all the way I have no doubts about that, but they would need both the Gunners and the Trotters to slip up and I think that is a little too much to hope for.

I wonder what has happened to Spurs this season, they really should be pushing hard for a Champions League spot again this term. Ok so the loss of Michael Carrick was a big blow to them, mainly because it means Jermaine Jenas gets more time on the pitch! But they replaced him with Didier Zokora who seems to be a player of a type they are in need of far more than Carrick. Spurs have no shortage of creative players, but Zokora is one of very few players capable of breaking up an opponent's attacks on Spurs' books.

Plus they now have a decent right back at last in Pascal Chimbonda, though they are suffering with injuries to defenders to counter that improvement. Maybe Tottenham's problems are the same as Liverpool's, too many new players needing time to gel together as a team. I do fear for Martin Jol's job if next season is not a lot lot better for the north Londoners.
