He made them stars

I have just been reading Jose Mourinho's comments about turning players into stars, both at Chelsea and at Porto, and I have to say he has a point. Frank Lampard and John Terry, for instance, are half the players in an England shirt, you can only think that is down to management. They are certainly playing alongside similar quality players in both teams.

Mourinho has the knack of winning, and playing for a winning team is what has made these players into stars. Jose does so much to take the pressure off his players and turn it all onto himself, but when they go and play for England the pressure is all on the players.

All Mourinho's talk about being the 'special one' is not arrogance, it is about giving the players confidence in him and taking the pressure off them. Jose spends a lot of time on match preparation and he does everything he can to give Chelsea an edge over the opposition.

Even his talk about going to the wrestling is just another attempt to relieve the unrelenting pressure that is on his players. Mourinho has cleverly turned the media spotlight away from the chase to catch Manchester United and the upcoming clash with Valencia. The only problem I can foresee is Jose finally cracking under all the pressure he heaps upon himself.
